Subject	shift knob help!

Message	ive got my shifter out of the z and im going to do the DIY short shift mod but i cant get the shift knob off...i swapped my old shifter out for a '96 NA that my buddy had and now i cant get it off...ive tried the towel thing and the pipe wrench back and forth trick but all that happens is the leather spins on the knob itself....any ideas?
